Implications of oil extraction from the Great Australian Bight for Paris Agreement long-term goal

A number of oil companies including BP, Statoil, Bight Petroleum, Santos and Chevron, are currently planning oil exploration wells in the deep waters of the Great Australian Bight. The Australian Government has issued nine oil exploration licences (EPP 37-45) to these companies.

This report, commissioned by the Wilderness Society, looks at BP’s new planned oil venture in the Great Australian Bight in the context of Australia’s climate commitments under the new international climate agreement.
