Kim

Dr Coetzee leads a diverse array of projects including the TERPEIS project focusing on decarbonisation of industry in the Western Balkans to the Global Mitigation Potential Atlas and an emerging workstream on just transitions. She moved to Berlin to join CA in February 2020 to lead work on the G20 member Profiles for the Climate Transparency Report.

Previously, as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Environmental and Geographical Sciences, University of Cape Town, Kim evaluated the mobilisation of sustainable consumption (1/2 of SDG 12) practices in the middle class in South through an examination of systems of food provision and regulation, consumer habits, and trends and fashions in food consumption.

Dr Coetzee has a background in international relations of climate change with a PhD in Energy and Development from the University of Cape Town in South Africa. During her PhD she worked as a researcher on the Mitigation Action Plans and Scenarios Programme (MAPS), primarily focussing on the BASIC countries and supporting the South African delegations to the BASIC Ministerial Meetings on Climate Change as well as the UNFCCC.

Her ongoing interest in the nexus of trade, climate change and consumption as these intersect with societal norms and behaviours drove her Master thesis examination of the treatment of marine-based Article XX exception cases under the GATT and WTO.
