Dr Zarrar Khan is a Senior Expert in Integrated Assessment Models based in our North America office. He has over a decade of experience developing and applying integrated modeling approaches to inform climate policy across more than 20 countries. His work connects energy, water, land, and economic systems to support just transitions and long-term scenario planning. At Climate Analytics, Zarrar works on top-down scenario modeling and downscaling for long-term mitigation pathways, across initiatives such as the Climate Action Tracker, the 1.5°C national pathway explorer, Real Zero, and the Global Methane Hub.

Prior to joining Climate Analytics, Zarrar worked as a Senior Climate Associate at Abt Global and a Computational Scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). He has contributed to net-zero strategies and scenario planning efforts with the Asian Development Bank, IFAD, USAID, the World Bank, the Green Climate Fund, and other international organisations across the US, EU, Latin America, Africa, and Asia. His past work includes supporting the U.S. Fifth National Climate Assessment and strategic planning in countries and regions including Uruguay, Colombia, Argentina, the Congo Basin, Jamaica, Pakistan, India, Malaysia, Thailand, and Chile.

He holds a PhD in Sustainable Energy Technologies and Strategies (jointly awarded by KTH, TU Delft, and Comillas University), a Master of Engineering in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Cornell University, a Master’s in Project Management from COMSATS University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from Dartmouth College.
