Monetising climate costs is an important instrument to highlight the benefits of climate protection. This research report presents and compares the damage cost and the mitigation cost approaches. Both approaches are fundamentally different and for different questions either the one or the other gives the conceptually correct answer. The report shows the basic procedures, crucial modelling approaches and insight into which differences in the procedures have the biggest impact on the respective cost rates.
