Options for resource allocation in the Green Climate Fund: incentivising paradigm shift within the GCF allocation framework

For the operation of the Green Climate Fund, it will be essential to define how the objective to promote paradigm shift towards low-emission and climate-resilient development pathways - as specified in the governing instrument – will be operationalised. This paper provides some detailed reflections for mitigation and adaptation to stimulate the ongoing discussion.

The paper has been drafted as part of a compilation of background papers on possible options for resource allocation in the Green Climate Fund.

Effectiveness of water-related adaptation decreases with increasing warming

When it comes to water, adaptation to climate change becomes less effective when warming is above 1.5°C, according to a new study looking at water-related climate risk at 1.5°C, 2°C, 3°C, and 4°C of warming. The study finds adaptation needs to go hand-in-hand with ambitious emissions reductions and decarbonisation.
