In this global update, the Climate Action Tracker (CAT) has calculated that global warming by 2100 could be as low as 2.1°C as a result of all the net zero pledges announced as of November 2020.

This report reviews G20 countries’ climate action and their transition to a net zero emissions economy and consists of two parts: the annual policy assessment based on data of the previous year(s) and an analysis of the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis and recovery efforts on countries’ climate ambition.

This report models the possible range in ambition of the new 2030 emissions reduction target that US President-elect Biden. The report also finds that China’s recent commitment to reach carbon neutrality before 2060 would be directly in line with the long-term goal of the Paris Agreement if it covers all greenhouse gases, but this would require much deeper cuts in the short-term.

This study shows that low-carbon investments to put the world on an ambitious track toward net zero carbon dioxide emissions by mid-century are dwarfed by currently announced COVID-19 stimulus funds.
