Transforming passenger transport in Eastern Europe: lessons from Lithuania, Hungary, Poland, and Romania

Event description

Over the last two decades, transport emissions in EU countries that joined after 2004 have gone up 90%, despite remaining stable elsewhere in the block. Much of this growth is driven by higher incomes, neglected transport networks, and the status attached to car ownership.

To tackle the problem, we need a more complete picture of the drivers of transport emissions, including individual behaviour and public policies. This event explored the key findings from a two-year research project on Eastern European transport policies and practices, with a particular focus on Lithuania, Hungary, Poland, and Romania.
