The event will open with a virtual keynote by Selwin Charles Hart – Special Advisor to the Secretary-General on Climate Action and Just Transition, Executive Office of the Secretary-General (EOSG), and will present the latest IPCC science and national and sectoral 1.5°C aligned pathways to close the 2030 emissions gap. It will highlight the importance of emission reductions in this critical decade and dispel the narrative that fossil gas is a transition fuel.

The Climate Action Tracker invites you to our virtual side event at Climate Week NYC on 21 September 2022 at 0900 EST / 1500 CEST where we will explore the elements of a good net zero target and how governments compare.
The Climate Action Tracker tracks government climate action in around 40 countries and measures it against the 1.5°C Paris Agreement limit. To evaluate government net zero targets, we have identified ten key elements to assess their scope, architecture, and transparency.
In this event, we will present our evaluation of governments’ net zero target design and outline what needs to happen between now and COP27.
