This event is part of Climate Week NYC, organised by the Climate Group. It takes place from 21 to 27 September 2020. As the focus shifts to how we rebuild after COVID-19, Climate Week NYC 2020 will explore what lessons we can learn in the pursuit of a net-zero future through just transition. This year, the Climate Group is hosting all of Climate Week NYC’s events on an online digital platform incorporating live broadcast, interactive sessions, networking areas and meeting space. Hundreds of events will also take place at locations across New York City and around the world as part of the official Climate Week NYC events programme. Climate Week NYC is hosted in association with the United Nations and the City of New York.
Governments are failing to match the level of ambition required to meet the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C limit, the long-term temperature goal (LTTG). Governments’ current commitments set the world on course for warming of about 2.8°C. Incremental improvements to these plans will not be enough. Rather, as this webinar will seek to explain, transformational changes, both at global and sectoral levels, are necessary to achieve the LTTG. COVID-19 recovery packages present both opportunities and threats for governments to enhance climate action and build resilience to climate change.
