Our New York office, Climate Analytics Inc., provides consistent technical support across climate and development related international processes, with a focus on assisting SIDS and LDCs’ diplomats, including Ambassadors, to enhance their impact in multilateral negotiations. Our New York Office also focuses on implementation activities, climate finance access and capacity building support in the Caribbean region and in other regions in close collaboration with other Climate Analytics’ offices. Climate Analytics Inc. partners up with US-based organizations, foundations and academia, to further advance climate science, climate policy research and analysis and concrete action on climate change.

Climate Analytics is an Associate Member of the NDC Partnership (NDC-P) and an Implementing Partner of the Climate Action Enhancement Package (abbreviated CAEP, pronounced “cap”) of the NDC-P. The CAEP is a new offering of the NDC-P and aims to catalyze transformational change towards resilient, sustainable, and low-emission development, supporting the objectives of the Paris Agreement for member countries of the NDC-P. The CAEP is designed to deliver targeted, fast-track support to countries to enhance the quality, increase the ambition; and implement nationally determined contributions (or NDCs).

Job Description

Climate Analytics Inc. (NY) is looking for a NDC Implementation Specialist to work under the supervision of the Head of Implementations Strategies Team and the project leads of the CAEP and with our team of experts. You will support the implementation of activities and country engagement under the CAEP work packages. This includes:

  • Supporting NDC revision and ambition enhancement research and desk work
  • Development of mitigation options and implementation strategies and/or plans
  • Support capacity building, including through training
  • Participate in-country missions in focus countries under the CAEP work package, including supporting the organization of workshops, fact finding bilateral meetings and public consultations, mostly but not limited to the Caribbean
  • Liaise with focus countries, regional and national organizations, agencies and governments and financing entities to identify priorities and opportunities for climate action implementation
  • Undertake research and analysis of NDCs, NAPs and other strategic and planning policy documents
  • Support Climate Analytics’ stakeholders in translating NDCs into implementation plans and project proposals
  • Assist in integrating a science-based approach into implementation activities
  • Provide input for management and reporting on projects, and dissemination of results including lesson learned and best practices.

In addition to supporting these activities specific to the CAEP, the NDC Implementation Specialist is expected to support broader activities of Climate Analytics in mitigation and adaptation implementation projects particularly in the Caribbean and support similar work undertaken in the other regions.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree, ideally in a subject related to climate change, public policy, international relations, environmental studies, or a related field is required
  • At least 2 years of experience in policy research on national climate change policies and plans, some knowledge of the international climate change negotiations is required
  • At least 2 years of experience in providing policy advisory services in the areas related to climate change is required, experience in working with developing countries governments is a plus
  • Knowledge/experience with sector specific greenhouse gas inventories is a plus
  • Knowledge/experience with measuring, reporting and verification (MRV) of climate actions.
  • Experience in working with and in developing countries is a plus
  • Understanding of environmental, technical and institutional analysis is a plus
  • Understanding of economics of climate change, climate change funding mechanisms, etc. is a plus
  • Excellent command of MS-Office is required
  • Fluency in French or Spanish is a plus
