We are currently seeking a Climate and Energy Policy Analyst for our multidisciplinary Climate Policy and Energy Transformation Team of 10-15 experts, mostly based in Berlin. The team focuses on energy-system transformation in line with the Paris Agreement Long-term Temperature Goal, including analysis of coal and other fossil fuel phase-out at international, national, sub-national and sectoral levels, combining both qualitative and quantitative scientific and policy expertise, approaches, data and models. Current and past projects include the Climate Action Tracker, IMPACT and our coal phase-out studies at global and regional/country level.

Key responsibilities

  • Quantitative and qualitative analytical research on mitigation related issues, in particular energy system and industrial transformation processes
  • Undertaking structured literature research and review of climate, energy and industry policy relevant literature
  • Data collection and data analysis, including emissions projections, mitigation strategies, technology and demand changes, with a focus on energy system and industrial transformation and their contribution to climate mitigation
  • Writing of reports, work papers, briefings and other information material
  • Interact with stakeholders and project partners
  • Support the overall development of policy and analytical research within the Climate Policy Team
  • Participation in meetings and international climate negotiations as required
  • Contribution to the development of a Climate Analytics overall mission

Your Profile

You will ideally have the following qualifications and skills:

  • A graduate degree in environment or climate-related studies, such as environmental management, climate science, social science, economics, engineering or a related field
  • At least two years of working experience in climate, energy and industry policy related fields
  • Experience with inter-disciplinary work and an interest in understanding and addressing regional, national, and sub-national challenges to climate change mitigation
  • Interest in, understanding and knowledge of energy and climate policy
  • Knowledge and experience in use of data analysis software, with strong preference for Python
  • Experience in project management and coordination are an advantage
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills. Working language is English, other UN languages are an asset
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented, and motivated self-starter
  • Team-player able to interact with a diverse array of people
