Job description

We are currently seeking a Climate and Energy Analyst for our international and diverse Climate Policy Team to lead our decarbonisation workstream and contribute to a variety of projects relating to climate mitigation analysis, including the Climate Action Tracker. This role bridges quantitative and qualitative policy analysis, and includes developing tools and methods for assessing climate mitigation action and providing scientific assessments of fossil-fuel phase-out requirements in Paris Agreement compatible pathways.

Your responsibilities

  • You deliver policy-relevant analyses and research on decarbonisation of sectors and economies under Paris Agreement compatible pathways.
  • You develop new and maintain existing tools to synthesize and disseminate policy relevant information to a variety of stakeholders.
  • You contribute to the Climate Action Tracker project, with a focus on assessing fairness and effectiveness of national climate change targets and policies and consistency with the Paris Agreement long term temperature goal.
  • You coordinate with project partners and relevant stakeholders – both internally and externally, and maintain relationships with collaborators.
  • You ensure scientific integrity of your work and the work of others.
  • You represent Climate Analytics and project teams in meetings and conferences and disseminate project results.
  • You help in the development and acquisition of new projects.

Your profile

You will ideally have the following qualifications and skills:

  • A master’s degree in energy studies, climate economics, climate policy or a related field and at least 5 years of relevant work experience. Comparable experience can be considered.
  • Strong quantitative skills, including programming experience (preferably Python)
  • An eye for detail and an interest in the political dimensions of your work
  • An interest in developing new knowledge and skills in mitigation pathways analysis and energy system modelling
  • Knowledge and understanding of key aspects of climate and energy policy at international and national levels, particularly in relation to the implementation of the Paris * Agreement across all sectors and synergies with SDGs
  • Understanding of global climate finance landscape is an added advantage
  • A sense for team work and ability to interact with a diverse array of people
  • Ability to work independently and work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Experience in project management and coordination
    *Our working language is English, therefore excellent English writing and verbal skills are necessary. Basic German skills are welcome, but not required, other language skills are an asset
  • Willingness and ability to travel
