Omagano Shooya

Research Analyst – Climate Change Adaptation

Omagano joined Climate Analytics as a Research Fellow after being awarded the “Supporting Climate Change Leaders, 2017” grants by the International Development and Research Centre (IRDC). Omagano has a MSc. in Climate Change and Sustainable Development from the University of Cape Town under the African Climate and Development Initiative (ACDI).

Prior to starting her MSc. Degree, she worked as working group coordinator at the Namibian Association of Community Based Natural Resource Management Support Organisations (NACSO) after she was head-hunted in 2013 to be part of the second group of the Conservation Leadership Programme, a joint initiative between WWF Namibia and NACSO. This programme is aimed at mentoring young individuals with the potential of becoming future leaders in conservation with a focus on Community Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM). In essence CBNRM consists of these main elements; allowing local community members to make their own management decisions about the way they use their natural resources, and providing communities the opportunity to manage their resources in an integrated manner.

She has hands-on experience working with rural communities, more specifically on strengthening their institutional frameworks.
