Moussa is a Senior Research Associate supporting national climate change policy formulation including National Adaptation Programmes of Action documents, NDCs, and National Communications or Technology Needs Assessments in Least Developed Countries.
Moussa has 15 years of experience working on action research tools and methods for climate vulnerability, adaptation and risk assessment, working with civil society networks and policy bodies in Africa on major projects and programmes like “Climate Change Capacity Development”, “Advancing Capacity to Support Climate Change Adaptation”, “Knowledge-Sharing for Climate Change Adaptation in Africa (AfricaAdapt)”, and “Building Resilience and Adaptation to Climate Extremes and Disasters (BRACED)” in the Sahel.
Moussa has worked with foremost policy bodies in Africa including the African Union (AU), the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and its African Climate Policy Centre (ACPC). Moussa was member of the ClimDev Africa Program Steering Committee, a programme led by the AU, ECA and the African Development Bank. Moussa is currently a member of the Steering Committee of the Economic Commission of West African States (ECOWAS)’ Climate Change Adaptation Programme.
Moussa holds a process engineering degree and Masters of Sciences degree in environmental sciences focused on carbon sequestration in farming systems in Senegal. As part of his PhD in Physics Moussa investigated on the design of solar dryers for drying of fruits and vegetables as a means of reducing post-harvest food losses.
In addition to the above, Moussa holds several professional training certificates on Management Tools for climate change adaptation knowledge sharing networks with the IDS (Brighton, UK); Climate Change UserLab jointly awarded by the SEI (Oxford, UK), the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (Cape Town, South Africa) and the UCT/CSAG (Cape Town, South Africa); Reporting Skills and Professional Writing with ELD’s Distance Learning Programme; Climate Change Adaptation Training of Trainers for NGOs in Eastern and Southern Africa with the ACTS (Nairobi, Kenya); Development of Business Plans for Bioenergy enterprises with Intelligent Energy (Europe).
