Deborah Ramalope joined Climate Analytics as Team Leader Climate for Policy Analysis in 2019 and she is based in Berlin. She is an Environmental scientist by training, with an MSc in Environmental Management and a Master of Business Leadership, from the University of Johannesburg (former Rand Afrikaans University) and University of South Africa, respectively.
Her work experience includes working at all levels of the South African government (local, provincial and national) and in the oil and gas industry. Her experience is mainly on climate change mitigation, both at international and national level. She was part of the South African delegation to the UNFCCC and IPCC meetings.
In her previous role, as the Chief Director, Climate Change Mitigation, she led a team of mitigation experts, responsible for providing climate change mitigation leadership in South Africa. She has successfully set up systems for South Africa’s climate change mitigation, having led the conceptualisation, development and implementation of South Africa’s greenhouse gas emission reduction system. This works included undertaking greenhouse gas emission mitigation potential analysis; allocation of carbon budgets to companies; drafting of South Africa’s first low emissions development strategy; and drafting of the climate change bill. She also has extensive leadership and management skills.
