Alcade is an agronomist by training with extensive knowledge and experience in ethnobiology. As Project Assistant, Alcade does not only provide organisational and communication support to the science-based national adaptation planning in Sub-Saharan Africa project (PAS-PNA) in Benin, but also backs Climate Analytics’ teams in analysing and summarising relevant scientific literature on climate change adaptation and vulnerability in Benin. His work also includes providing technical support to the in-depth vulnerability assessment and identification of adaptation priorities.
Alcade’s research interest is at the interface of agricultural sustainability and utilization of plant resources in agroecosystems. He is particularly interested in how agrobiodiversity and knowledge shared by locals can be used to design agroecological farming systems and improve smallholders’ food security and livelihoods in the context of a changing climate.
Before joining Climate Analytics, he was a Research Scholar at the CGIAR Research Center, the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) in Mali, where he was involved in the Adaptation at Scale in Semi-Arid Regions (ASSAR) project, one of the four research programmes funded through the Collaborative Adaptation Research Initiative in Africa and Asia (CARIAA). He was an Assistant Consultant for another CGIAR Research Center, Bioversity International, West and Central Africa office in Benin, where he analysed various agroecological intensification options in West African Sahel and Dry Savannas. He has also contributed to various research projects as Research Assistant at the University of Abomey-Calavi in Benin. He is experienced in quantitative field observations and experimentations, ethnobotanical as well as psychometric methods.
Alcade hold an M.Sc. in Agronomic Sciences from the University of Abomey-Calavi, Benin and is currently completing his PhD in Environmental Science at the University of Ghana. His PhD research is investigating the climatic and non-climatic driving forces of vegetation dynamics and exploring the nexus between climate change adaptation and agrobiodiversity in semi-arid areas of West Africa.
